corinspired: Hello! I was wondering how you were able to sync two gifs so they make a complete image? Like the one of Howl cranking the egg onto the pan.

  1. First I prepared the gif in Photoshop in 500px size, as I normally would for any other gif.
  2. In photosets, when there are 2 gifs in one row, each gif is 245px wide. There are 10px in between them. Knowing this information, I made two copies of my 500px gif, one that would be the right side and one that would be the left side. On one of them, I cropped it to be 245px wide and cropped it so that it was the right side. On the other, I cropped it to be 245px wide as well, except it was the left side. So I had 10 pixels in the middle that wouldn’t be used.
  3. Because they originally came from one gif, they were both the same number of frames, and everything matched up. If you want to sync two gifs, then they must be the same number of frames.
  4. I saved each half individually and made sure that I used the same optimization settings for both so that they wouldn’t look different.
  5. Then I uploaded them to Tumblr! The gifs won’t always be in sync…sometimes when you load the page they will be perfectly in sync. But other times when you load the page they aren’t in sync and it’s annoying. So I’m not a huge fan of making gifs like this; I think that’s the only time I used this method.
  6. Er, I hope this made sense! Feel free to ask me more questions if any of this was confusing.
