More asks/discussion under the cut!
___________________________________________________________________________________more thoughts from people about queerness in Japanese society! Thanks for sharing guys! Seems like the general consensus is that there won’t be any queer couples in Ghibli anytime soon.
___________________________________________________________________________________That’s disappointing. :( But thank you for your input!!!
___________________________________________________________________________________Well yeah, most Ghibli characters are Japanese. I’m not saying that Chihiro or Kiki is white. The post was specifically talking about the absence of dark-skinned characters though.
___________________________________________________________________________________I follow a lot of Studio Ghibli blogs on Tumblr and most of the time I reblog things that they post and find new gif makers through them. Occasionally I’ll look through specific tags if there’s a certain movie I want to post. Thank you for the kind words! :)
___________________________________________________________________________________Hahaha, I thought that too when I first saw it! Then I watched more closely and realized that she was just wearing leggings that have a similar color to her skin tone. :P
___________________________________________________________________________________Hmm…probably Spirited Away. It was the first Ghibli movie I saw, and the two separate worlds (the real world and the spirit world) remind me somewhat of my childhood. Thanks for the interesting question!
___________________________________________________________________________________It’s from a 1995 music video that Studio Ghibli made for Chage and Aska, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. You can watch it here!
___________________________________________________________________________________The one with the people bowing? That’s from a commercial that Studio Ghibli made for Risona Bank in 2003. You can watch it here.
___________________________________________________________________________________haha, it’s okay anon! I totally see how you could have thought it was from Princess Mononoke or Tales from Earthsea. don’t worry about it c:
___________________________________________________________________________________Nope! It’s from Howl’s Moving Castle. I’m the one who made it. It’s during the scene where Sophie goes upstairs in the castle to clean and she goes out on the balcony and looks at the mountains and scenery and she’s all happy because nature is beautiful.

The PlayStation 3 version of Ni no Kuni (titled Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch) will be released in the west in January 2013. In the US, it’ll be released on the 23rd; in Europe, on the 25th. I got this information from Wiki and also from here, where you can watch a trailer and look at some screenshots. It looks really awesome! Reminds me a bit of Howl’s Moving Castle. You can pre-order the game on Amazon.
___________________________________________________________________________________Yes I did! A while ago, I reblogged a post about it here with some information about the play.
