Anonymous: I'm looking for a gif/quote of when Sophie is going to Madame Suliman and wonders what Howl will be disguised as. She looks at the birds and says " no, he's too flamboyant". And then sees a girl with a guy (i think) flying and says "that's probably him". It was hilarious to me. I've tried searching through your index, but i'm having no luck so far, so I'm sorry if it is actually there. Thank you so much!!

just reblogged a gif set of this for ya :)

Anonymous: Did something happen to Miyazaki?

he retired :(

i mean he has retired in the past and he came back to make new movies but i don’t know, i don’t want to get my hopes up?? he’s been making movies for a long time though so i think he deserves a rest. we’ll always have princess mononoke & the rest of his movies to inspire us :) (i sense a miyazaki marathon approaching me in the near future. yes.)

more thoughts from people about queerness in Japanese society! Thanks for sharing guys! Seems like the general consensus is that there won’t be any queer couples in Ghibli anytime soon.

Anonymous: Hi! re: queer characters in Ghibli, I used to live in Japan and Japanese society is generally not currently very queer friendly. Most queer folk in Japan are pretty closeted, or else encouraged to marry and live a publicly heterosexual life, although this is just what I experienced in my time there. With that in mind a queer leading couple in a Ghibli movie in the next decade is unfortunately kind of unlikely, imo, but Miyazaki and SG's films r so far pretty progressive compared to others!

That’s disappointing. :( But thank you for your input!!!

Anonymous: aren't ghibli characters suppose to be japanese rather than white? i know some have, like, blonde hair and stuff, but isn't that like when anime character have pink or blue hair? they're still suppose to be japanese?

Well yeah, most Ghibli characters are Japanese. I’m not saying that Chihiro or Kiki is white. The post was specifically talking about the absence of dark-skinned characters though.
