more thoughts from people about queerness in Japanese society! Thanks for sharing guys! Seems like the general consensus is that there won’t be any queer couples in Ghibli anytime soon.

Anonymous: Hi! re: queer characters in Ghibli, I used to live in Japan and Japanese society is generally not currently very queer friendly. Most queer folk in Japan are pretty closeted, or else encouraged to marry and live a publicly heterosexual life, although this is just what I experienced in my time there. With that in mind a queer leading couple in a Ghibli movie in the next decade is unfortunately kind of unlikely, imo, but Miyazaki and SG's films r so far pretty progressive compared to others!

That’s disappointing. :( But thank you for your input!!!

Anonymous: aren't ghibli characters suppose to be japanese rather than white? i know some have, like, blonde hair and stuff, but isn't that like when anime character have pink or blue hair? they're still suppose to be japanese?

Well yeah, most Ghibli characters are Japanese. I’m not saying that Chihiro or Kiki is white. The post was specifically talking about the absence of dark-skinned characters though.

Anonymous: I haven't creeped your blog in awhile and I forgot how gorgeous all of your gifs were! How do you find the gifs that you reblog? Do you just search the Studio Ghibli tag or specific movies? (I'm asking because I'm currently giffing Spirited Away, but I'm on anon because I don't want to seem greedy to get you to reblog from me because I asked). I just want to remind you that I love your blog and Ghibli and ajdshfalskjd :3

I follow a lot of Studio Ghibli blogs on Tumblr and most of the time I reblog things that they post and find new gif makers through them. Occasionally I’ll look through specific tags if there’s a certain movie I want to post. Thank you for the kind words! :)

Anonymous: Ever heard people saying Nausicaä wasn't wearing pants in the whole first scene of the movie? Crazy, right?

Hahaha, I thought that too when I first saw it! Then I watched more closely and realized that she was just wearing leggings that have a similar color to her skin tone. :P

Anonymous: What Studio Ghibli film most encompasses your childhood?

Hmm…probably Spirited Away. It was the first Ghibli movie I saw, and the two separate worlds (the real world and the spirit world) remind me somewhat of my childhood. Thanks for the interesting question!

missjoolee: Which movie is the gif set you posted with the girl with wings in a car from?

It’s from a 1995 music video that Studio Ghibli made for Chage and Aska, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. You can watch it here!

astronauts-and-monsters: Whats the gif you just posted?

The one with the people bowing? That’s from a commercial that Studio Ghibli made for Risona Bank in 2003. You can watch it here.

Anonymous: oh whoops, sorry heheh. guess i'll just shut my mouth now.

haha, it’s okay anon! I totally see how you could have thought it was from Princess Mononoke or Tales from Earthsea. don’t worry about it c:

Anonymous: hi, im almost positive that gif you recently reblogged with the running deer is not from howl's moving castle. im pretty sure its from either princess mononoke or tales of earthsea. just thought id let you know. :)

Nope! It’s from Howl’s Moving Castle. I’m the one who made it. It’s during the scene where Sophie goes upstairs in the castle to clean and she goes out on the balcony and looks at the mountains and scenery and she’s all happy because nature is beautiful.

yourionsarewhirring: I don't suppose you know anything about the ghibli game - Ni No Kuni - e.g do you think it will be released in the west and if so, do you know when?

The PlayStation 3 version of Ni no Kuni (titled Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch) will be released in the west in January 2013. In the US, it’ll be released on the 23rd; in Europe, on the 25th. I got this information from Wiki and also from here, where you can watch a trailer and look at some screenshots. It looks really awesome! Reminds me a bit of Howl’s Moving Castle. You can pre-order the game on Amazon.

Anonymous: Did you hear about Princess Mononoke being turned into a stage play in London?

Yes I did! A while ago, I reblogged a post about it here with some information about the play.
